BACKGROUND: As an American I have trained and lived in New Zealand intermittently for over 40 years, much of it while living on a sailboat. My wife and I bought a lovely harbourside home ten years ago and live there six months every year. Now at age 72 we regretfully find it a bit difficult to keep up with both the USA and NZ houses as well as the boat, so we plan to retrench back to the boat on the marina where she was built. No rush, no economic need to sell the home, but it is time. We hate to do this, but common sense must prevail eventually. |
FURNISHED HARBOURSIDE HOME, GARDENS, POOL |
WHY SELL VIA THE USA? It makes sense to sell in the USA to a person wanting minimal hassle finding a lovely furnished home in New Zealand's subtropical Northland. It is easier for us to sell in the USA - no need to go through the complication of funds conversion fees and international transfers. This is also good for the buyer who may move into the home at any time (after mid-November 2010) with everything set up and my wife and I living close by for assistance and getting you "checked out" in the house and the local area. When you want to take possession give us several weeks notice and we can easily shift onto our boat. I take pride in being a 1960 Air Force Academy graduate when there still was a respected Honor Code. You may trust me to be open, honest, and totally above-board. |

LOCATION DETAILS |
Our home is in Onerahi overlooking the harbor harbour. Onerahi is a suburb of Whangarei. Whangarei itself is a town of 40,000 about 100 miles north of Auckland. It is a well-known boating refitting-town for saillboats coming south out of the tropics to avoid the hurricanes prevalent in the cruising areas further north in the Southwest Pacific summer. This means that Whangarei is not just another provincial town, but is home - often for several years - to over 100 sailboats and crews of various nationalities making for a fascinating group of "locals". When we return back to Boulder, Colorado there are always sailors who are happy to "come ashore" over the coolish New Zealand winter and house-sit. We don't charge them rent - they pay utilities - a good deal for them and us a well. You can easily do the same. |

Yes, I agree - this is a lovely place in a beautful area - it will be hard to leave the house. However we will not really be moving away - just transferring to our boat a few kilometers away (yes, New Zealand works on metric!) and be able to remain in in close contact withour friends. |
North of Whangarei the main highway leads to Kerikeri and the Bay of Islands. The Bay of Island has world-famous game fishing (Zane Grey country) and marvelous island-protected ocean sailing areas. 45 minutes from Whangarei lies Tutukaka - another highly-regarded game fishing location. Oregon-like seacoast areas with broad sweeping beaches washed by the Tasman Sea are an hour's drive west. Just up the hill from our home is the Onerahi Airport with six to eight daily commuter flights direct to Auckland International. Most groceries can be bought in Onerahi; Whangarei is only seven kilometers away and has more complete shopping and other services. The Northland Hospital is 15 minutes away from the house. |
